Manual Machinist

We are now recruiting for a Manual Machinist to operate manual mills or lathes to produce high tolerance piece parts and components used in UHV end products.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Meet deadlines for internal and external customers
  • Clocking on works orders to initiate start of job and clocking off works order to show job completion
  • Improve efficiency by working to reduce set-up and ensuring accurate, efficient work output
  • To perform other duties from time to time, as may be required by the Company
  • Ensure tidiness and physical appearance of the workplace is maintained
  • Ensure adherence to HS&E policies

 

Skills & Experience: 

  • A proven track record of understanding how to use machines and problems associated with machining different shapes and sizes of components
  • Ability to read engineering drawings and operate manual machines.
  • Must understand requirements of On Time Delivery both internally and externally
  • Have an understanding of how parts/material will react after and during machining to be able to foresee potential problems before they arise.
  • Ability to prioritise projects throughout team to achieve targets incorporating CIT, (call in time / Overtime).
  • Deadline driven without compromising quality.
  • Capable of using the relevant measuring equipment that is suitable for the tolerance band being checked
  • Understands and works to the 5s program.

Product Development Engineer

We are now recruiting for a Product Development Engineer to be an integral part of the Engineering team ensuring our products are delivered on time, to specification and within budget and to the best DFMA principles.

 

About the role: 

 

Have you got demonstrable experience in CAD Design / Drawing and using this to provide manufacturing engineering support?

Are you great at project costing, quotation and root cause analysis?

Do you have a background in design engineering and experience in Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA)?

The main purpose of the role is taking ownership for the assigned product range during its lifecycle including the following aspects:

You will be responsible for owning the full lifecycle of one of our product ranges including Product Development, Product Maintenance, Custom Design, NPI and Manufacturing Support:

Multiple Openings: TIG Welder / Fabrication 

We are now recruiting for an experienced team of TIG Welders / Fabricators to join our busy manufacturing department, as we are in the process of expanding to accomodate customer demands. 
 

Primary Purpose: 


To ensure all TIG Welding projects are completed in conformance with specifications and set time scales.

Fabrication and welding of vacuum chambers, components and sub assemblies as required in line with planned manufacturing operations to defined quality standards and timescales.

 

Key Reponsibilties:


  • Work closely with Lead Technician to enable welding and fabrication objectives to be completed.
  • Complete projects in accordance with planned schedules aligning fabrication and welding workload with machine shop operations.
  • Quality Control evaluations. Set up and running of leak checking operations using mass spectrometry equipment, (helium leak detectors) on all chamber vessels.
Indicative Performance Measures:

  • Manages personal workload, meeting all targets set 
  • Works well within the team, maintaining effective relationships with colleagues in the welding department 
  • Demonstrates a flexible atttude coping with changing priorities in a fast paced environment 
  • Understands the importace of quality, time frames and customer requirements

  • Minimum 3 years experience in TIG welding 
  • TIG Welding (Ideally working with Mu-Metal and Stainless Steel) 
  • Established skillset in metal fabrication and wedling including the use of precision measuring equiment 
  • Able to read specified drawings 
  • Comfortable working to deadlines set by lead technician 
  • Basic knowledge of turning would be an advantage

Quality Inspector

We are now recruiting for a Quality Inspector to join our Quality Team.
 

Primary Purpose: 


You will be responsible for measuring, inspecting, testing and validating various components and assemblies to specification.

You will be recording information to drive improvement in quality performance and identifying root cause to prevent failures and be our champion in maintaining quality standards across the business.

 

Key Reponsibilties:


  • Measure and visually inspect components and assemblies to drawing using a variety of metrology equipment including the use of Faro Arm (CMM) equipment.
  • Test and validate components and assemblies using a variety of test equipment.
  • Visually inspect welds.
  • Ensure any defects and features not to specification are recorded through the non-conformance process and corrective actions and root cause are established to correct errors and prevent future occurrence.
  • Visually inspect finished goods to ensure compliance to specification and being the champion for ensuring the required quality standard is delivered to our customers
  • Work with various individuals and teams to improve processes to manufacture product right first time.
  • Update key performance indicators and metrics to drive quality improvement.

Candidates must have the following skills and experience:

 

  • Experience working to ISO 9001.
  • At least 3 years' experience working in a machine shop or similar manufacturing environment and possess a good understanding of Quality and Process management tools and methodology. Examples including 5S/6S, flowcharts, VSM, Kaizen, Pareto, QCPC, SPC, AQL, FMEA, 8D, Cause & Effect, Ishikawa, 5 whys etc.
  • Experience of using CMM or Faro Arm devices and proficient with a range of metrology equipment typically used in machine shop environments.
  • Able to read and understand technical drawings and engineering specifications

 

Desirable Skills and Experience:


  • Knowledge or experience of welding and fabrication processes would be beneficial
  • Previous experience of working in the vacuum industry would be advantageous.
  • Qualified to BTech/HNC/HND level in a Mechanical Engineering or Manufacturing discipline.

Manufacturing Cell Leader 

We are now recruiting for a Manufacturing Cell Leader, to be responsible for managing day-to-day operations in production.

Primary Purpose: 


You will lead and manage all day-to-day operational functions involved in the production of machined components required for VACGEN's UHV Surface Science, Industrial and Special Projects product lines.

You will also support and lead the team from within, ensuring the standard work, work instructions, one-piece flow and other cellular principles are upheld.

 

Key Reponsibilties:


  • Monitoring and managing the team in terms of attendance, work rate and general attitude to work.
  • Assisting in setting the teams targets in terms of Quality, Delivery and Cost.
  • Being a Cell Technician as and when required.
  • Assuming responsibility for the upkeep of all Visual Management, including standard work documentation, the QDIP board, the production target board and the cell team board.
  • Contributing and helping to drive the team's improvement agenda.
  • Assisting the Production Manager in ensuring that the team is working to the correct routing time and has the relevant staffing and standard work splits, in accordance with each day's customer demand.

Candidates must have the following skills and experience:

 

  • Excellent knowledge of manufacturing, fabrication and production assembly and test processes preferably within a high technology industry.
  • Knowledge of vacuum industry would be beneficial but not essential.
  • Experience of machining and managing a machine shop / department.
  • Leadership and coaching experience.
  • Hands-on approach to leading the team with strong communication skills
  • Ability to work accurately to tight deadlines under pressure
  • High level of organisational and planning skills

 

Desirable Skills and Experience:

 

  • Experience in low batch high tolerance workshop environment.
  • Good knowledge of current manufacturing practices including lean manufacture and continuous improvement methods.
  • HND / HND in Mechanical Engineering or similar.
